Caring For Your Carpet Floors

There is regular maintenance and care that must be done in order to get the most life out of your carpet floor.

Basic Care & Maintenance

• Use a quality vacuum for your carpet, vacuum often and thoroughly more so in higher traffic areas
• Use area rugs or runners to preserve carpet in high traffic areas

Vacuuming often with a quality vacuum will keep dirt out of the carpet fibers and from settling deep below into the synthetic backing that can get worn by the dirt as well. Dirt acts as a sandpaper weakening each tuft when walked on over and over.

Cleaning Stains 

When spins occur you must act on it as soon as possible.

• First blot the area getting it as dry as possible, don't add cleaning solution until this is done it will only spead the stain more. Always use a non colored towel or rag
• Try to only use a small amount of cleaning solution, use clean water to get the solution up
• Work your way from the outside in
• If carpet dye starts showing on the towel or rag, call a professional

Some stains are virtually impossible to remove. If animal urine is allowed to dry this will stain permanently along with foods or drinks with coloring. Always act quickly when these types of liquids get onto your carpet or it will be permanent .

Even though you may vacuum and spot clean regularly, it is recommended you get your carpet cleaned every 12 to 18 months.

Caring For Your Laminate Floor

A laminate floor can give you many lasting years if properly cared for. Proper routine maintanance is always required to keep your floors beautiful and long lasting. The amount of care will depend on the number of people in the house hold.

Laminate floor care essentials

• Never drag furntire across your laminate floor, use floor glides to place under furniture to help if extra hands aren't available
• Dust mop using a soft microfiber or soft mop head to collect dirt that can scratch the surface
• Wet mop using a soft microfiber cloth or soft mop head, never use abrasive cleaners, scouring substances, paste waxes or floor polishes
• Use felt pads under furniture legs
• Never leave stading water on laminate, use drip catchers for potted plants on the floor
• Stains can be removed with Acetone, nail polish remover or other mild solvents containing alcohol
• Use non staining area mats for entries
